Best Seminyak Beach Bars

La Plancha

Like a lot of beaches in Bali, Seminyak’s long stretch of sand plays host to its fair share of local traders, selling almost everything you can imagine – from fruits and shells to massages, manicures and hair braiding, and even intricate wood carvings that we can’t imagine would fit in most suitcases!

Unlike in Kuta, though, where the traders often won’t take no for an answer, you’ll largely be left alone during the day on the more sophisticated Seminyak Beach, save the odd offer of a sunbed or an icy cold local beer. We advise you to take advantage of the relaxing vibe and spend at least a day or two sunbathing, swimming or learning to surf on Bali’s most famous beach.

If you walk along Seminyak Beach, heading from Seminyak towards Double Six Road, you’ll find that it merges into Legian Beach, where you won’t be able to miss the many colourful beach bars, complete with extremely comfy bean bags, that make this part of the beach one of the most popular in the Seminyak area.

At La Plancha, one of our favourites, the staff are super-friendly and the drinks are cheap. Grab a bean bag and chill out with a light snack as the day heads towards sunset. (We particularly recommend the burgers – you won’t find any tastier in Seminyak!)

Prices:

  • Burger IDR 90,000
  • Heineken IDR 35,000

Crystal Palace Beach Hut is another great Seminyak hang-out. Why not get a little shade and grab a bite, or alternatively make the most of the bar’s brightly coloured beanbags for a sunset cocktail at happy hour 5pm – 8pm daily, with a live band from 7pm.

Prices:

  • Bar snacks IDR 40,000 – 80,000
  • Cocktails start from IDR 75,000

One of the newest additions to Seminyak Beach is B9B – Blue 9 Beach – formerly known as Sandpit. The prices are affordable and you have the option to dine on Western or Indonesian food inside at the bar or plonk yourself down on a beanbag on the beach with a cocktail. We definitely recommend the latter, as B9B’s crazy cocktail list is one not to be missed. We won’t give too much away (and some of the names are too lewd to print on this blog!), but we definitely suggest you go and check it out for yourself.

Prices:

  • Main dishes start from IDR 75,000
  • Cocktails start from IDR 65,000

Walk a little further down the beach and things start to get a bit more crowded with local beach traders selling cold beers and soft drinks from bright red cool boxes almost everywhere you look! They’ll also be happy to rent you a long bed and umbrella for the day (usually costing around 50,000 rupiah), sell you a surf lesson or just rent you a board for a small fee.

On this section of the beach, don’t forget to look out for Tobings Bar, where the staff are chatty and always smiling and a Bintang is only IDR 20,000 🙂

And although it is pretty pricey, what’s a holiday without a little splurge? We recommend going all out at one of the most popular beach clubs on the island; spend the day lounging by the infinity pool, enjoy an afternoon snack from one of the venue’s three restaurants and finish the day off with sunset cocktails. We promise you won’t be disappointed!

From Monday to Thursday, you’ll also be treated to complimentary tapas and Happy Hour drinks, while Friday is the day to take in the venue’s Sunset Sessions. Don’t worry if you can’t make it when there’s an event or a party scheduled, though; WooBar always provides a constant flow of chill-out music, perfectly complementing the flow of the waves out beyond Seminyak’s golden sands.

Ku De Ta, Bali

With its awesome vibe and spectacular view of the ocean, Ku De Ta is a must visit for tourists of all ages. Not only is it world renowned for its amazing parties (our favourites are the Bikini Day Party and the White Party, which both draw huge international crowds), it also serves cuisine that easily competes with the top fine dining restaurants on the island. Again, Ku De Ta will put a bit of a dent in your wallet, but it’s more than worth splashing out on visiting this beach club, bar and restaurant for the unparalleled cuisine, service and party vibe 🙂

Motel Mexicola

Sophisticated, stylish and oozing with class, Seminyak nightlife is the most exclusive in Bali! Over the last few years Seminyak has not only become popular for its designer boutiques, trendy bars and classy bistros; its nightclubs have also attracted partygoers from across the globe, welcomed world-famous DJs, and hosted parties for countless A-listers. Want to find out what all the fuss is about? Here’s our guide to partying – day and night – in Bali’s trendiest town…

Mantra is known for its huge variety of day and night time events – from international DJs to art exhibitions, so, on your way through Seminyak, it’s always worth nipping in for a delicious daytime snack and finding out what’s in store for that evening.

Rumours

If you like loud music and a lively atmosphere Rumours is definitely the place for you – any night of the week! And, although it is a little rowdy, it still manages to attract a stylish, Seminyak crowd with its large selection of wines from all over the world, enormous variety of spirits from the bar, and live DJ who plays energetic, funky tunes from Monday to Saturday. If you’re anything like us, you’ll more than likely leave this place tipsy and happy 🙂

Motel Mexicola

One of the newest bars and restaurants in Seminyak is the hot and trendy Motel Mexicola, which, yep, you guessed it, is Mexican from the floor to the ceiling. Inside and out, you’ll see bright colours, Mexican prints and candles, and long tables with plastic table cloths featuring happy designs – and the drinks list is literally tequila madness! In fact, there is such a big selection of the Mexicans’ favourite tipple, it’s probably best that you just see for yourself 🙂

When it comes to food, we weren’t quite as impressed though – the quality is great but the portions are small for the price you pay. But don’t let that put you off – Motel Mexicola is perfect for a leisurely cocktail or two – even if it is only to check out the decor!

TownHouse

Last but definitely not least, bar-bistro-lounge-gallery Townhouse is the newest addition to Seminyak’s party scene. (Yes, you read that right – all this is housed under one exotic roof!) Created by Mark Baker, a 30 year aficionado of the New York nightlife scene, this super-sophisticated venue can cater for all your party needs in one go – from catching Seminyak’s spectacular sunset on the rooftop bar, to sampling bespoke cocktails and dancing to the tunes of international DJs in the Townhouse Lounge, inspired by NYC’s ‘The Double Seven’. Trendy, cool and open ‘til late, we think Townhouse has got the vibe just right to fit in perfectly with Seminyak’s ever-expanding party scene.
